This Sunderland registered steam tug sank 6 miles SE of Dunbeath while under the command of Captain Scott. The cause was believed to be a burst feed pipe to the boiler. All the crew were rescued.
The Young Donald was built by John & Peter Winlo in South Shields as Yard number 8 and was launched on 7 December 1885, (she was christened by Miss McDonald). She was built of wood and was 52 gross registered tons, 7 net registered tons, having dimensions of length 74', breadth 16' 8", depth 9'. Her 25 net horse power engine was built by J Wigwam, Hylton and she had a single screw.
In 1885 she was owned by JM Scott of Sunderland and in July 1887 she transferred to Miss Mary C McDonald, Sunderland. Her ship's Registration Number was 90330.
