The schooner Rose, struck on a rock at Whaligoe, eight miles south of Wick, on the 28th September and sunk. Her cargo of railway sleepers came ashore and her crew of crew of three were missing presumed drowned.
Initially it was reported that it was the Laurvig that had been lost at Whaligoe, but she arrived at Wick all safe of 2nd October and the vessel actually wrecked was the Rose.
The Rose was registered at Kirkwall, Orkney and was 51 tons, having length of 17m and beam of 5m.
