Polarstjernen

28 August 1897

This Sandefjord registered wooden steamship caught fire and blew up six miles NW of Thurso while bound for Greenland carrying gunpowder and a general cargo and under the command of Captain Anderson.  She had a crew of fourteen.

The Polarstjernen was built in 1885. She was 107’ long, had a beam of 23’ and was 194 gross registered tons.
