The Faroese fishing boat, Else (FD 9), ran ashore at the Ness of Duncansby shortly after 7am.  Four of her crew were rescued by the 20 foot long Stroma boat, Girl Elsie, which was crewed by Mr Manson and his two sons.  Those rescued being landed at John O' Groats. The Skipper, Jogvan Ingvar Olsen and the Engineer decided to remain on board in order to make a salvage attempt when the tide rose.  As there attempts were unsuccessful they were taken off by Wick lifeboat.

The Else became a total wreck.
