Eamont

11 February 1941

This Fleetwood registered steam trawler was bombed by German aircraft and a bomb is reputed to have fallen into the wheelhouse but failed to explode. The vessel was abandoned immediately and was last seen drifting ashore "3 cables north of Latheronwheel harbour". 

There is an unconfirmed report that the wreck was located and the bomb removed.

The Eamont (ex Kirklinton) was steel built in 1916.  She was 117.4' long, 22.5' wide, had a draught of 13.7' and was 227 tons gross, 87 tons net.


Possible position 58 16 50N, 03 22 00W.
