This Liverpool steamer was west-bound with a cargo of wood and railway sleepers, when she struck the rocks at Wardigeo, on the north-east side of Stroma in a fog. The crew were landed safely by Stroma fishermen and there was found to be nine different nationalities amongst those rescued. Her master was called Captain Hurrell.
Part of her cargo was salvaged then the vessel turned turtle and became a total wreck.
The Corinthia (ex Author) was iron built in 1880 and was 76m long by 10m wide. She was 1378 gross registered tons.
