This Fraserburgh drifter sprang a leak about two miles from St Johns Point while crossing the rip tide of the 'Merry men of Mey'. The Stroma coastguard and local man Sutherland Manson watched the crew trying to seal the sprung plank with an old sail and then saw the Banff drifter Alert rescue the men and some of their nets, before the vessel sank about 2 miles north of St.Johns Point, leaving only a small cloud of steam to mark where she had been.
