During the afternoon, the schooner Braes of Enzie deeply laden with coal was seen off Wick Bay during a severe south-easterly gale, with very heavy seas. Observers on the shore watched her progress carefully, as the crew succeeded in rounding Noss Head and then drop anchor in Sinclair bay. However next morning she appeared to be in danger of being driven ashore and so a message was sent to Wick for the lifeboat, which was taken by road to Ackergill and launched. With great difficulty, Coxswain McLeod managed to get alongside the schooner and rescued the whole crew, who were landed at Ackergill.
