Berriedale

19 May 1943

This coasting steamer with a part cargo aboard, was struck by a heavy sea and turned turtle, 6 miles east of the Pentland Skerries. 16 members of her crew  took to a raft and were picked up off Dunnet Head by one of HM trawlers. The master of the vessel was drowned.

In another report it is claimed she foundered 7 miles SSE of Wick with a cargo of coal. Possible positions; 58 24 50N, 02 546 83W or 58 23N, 02 55W.


The Berriedale (ex Almascos, Royal Regis) was 614 gross tons and built of steel in 1922.  She was 51m long by 8m wide.
