This Banff registered fishing trawler, (BF 394) ran aground on the rocks below the Dounreay Nuclear Site situated on the North coast of Caithness. Firemen from Dounreay offered to take the crew ashore by rope but this was declined as they wanted to try and reflect the vessel. When the weather suddenly deteriorated the Thurso lifeboat, auxiliary coastguard and a rescue helicopter were called to Dounreay.
Attempts by the crew to get ashore by liferaft were unsuccessful, so coastguards put lines aboard and brought all the crew to safety. The crew were taken to Dounreay Occupational Health Department and treated for shock and exposure.
The Arnisdale became a total wreck.
The Arnisdale was built in 1962 and was 22m long and 48 gross tons.
