Wick lifeboat arrived off Sarclet Head at 2.20am after the coastguard reported at 1.35am that a fishing vessel was sinking off Sarclet Head. The lifeboat was launched 10 minutes after receiving the call and two other fishing boats radioed that they were heading towards the casualty. On arriving at the scene the lifeboat sighted flares being fired by four crew members of the Wick registered fishing boat Andrias having had to take to a liferaft when the vessel sank. The men were rescued and were taken aboard the lifeboat which returned to Wick at 3.10am.
The wreck was later lifted from around 40m by three local divers; Billy Stewart, Charlie Stewart and Stewart Wishart and brought in to Sarclet, where it was dropped again in 10-15m pending a final lift for salvage purposes. Alas, the weather blew up and the wreck became a total loss.
Councillor Jim Oag (Wick) asked Caithness Diving Club to help him lift some stuff off the wreck using his boat 'Ocean's Gift' and the stern gear and some other bits and pieces were eventually brought back to Wick.
